Listening: Songs For A New World

Here it is finally, my first entry into this journal. I always swore I would not begin using one of these ridiculous things. However, in today's politics it seems that any lunatic with a laptop can create a commotion, so I might as well be able to defend myself.

Also, of course, it gives me something to do when I'm pretending to think deeply about the inner meanings of the speech I'm writing. (I've actually just run out of synonyms for policy that don't make me sound like an imbecile.)

It would also seem that I am far behind all the rest of the staff in posting my first entry. Yet there is little to show for my time other than a partially written speech, an office yet to be unpacked, and a slightly edgy deputy.

I think I'm getting an ulcer.

I imagine that's just God's way of saying, "Welcome to the White House Katherine."

After years of lobbying, campaigning, and protesting, I can really do something now.

Time to get to work Kate.

I want to defend myself for the "edgy" comment, but instead I look at my desk in disarray and wonder ...Really?

We need to swap speeches. Maybe we can steal from each other and come up with a good half of a draft.

Don't worry, you'll be just fine once we get you that couch...I hope. Speaking of which, why isn't anyone getting ME a couch. I really need to find an assistant.

I can loan you Mel, but only until the term really starts. She's irreplacable after that.

Mark, I am always irreplaceable. But Kate, I'd be happy to help you in anyway that I can. Maybe you can even STEAL me away from this egomaniac!

I wouldn't dare steal you away from him, Mel. I'm afraid he would simply fall apart. Either that or become buried in file folders. I will take you up on that offer for help though. I'll let you know if I need you. Lastly, thank you Mel, from both of us. I'm sure this office would fall apart with out you.

Thank you Kate. Honestly, I doubt I could ever bring myself to leave the guy...he's family
